IRVING, Texas – Following the Greater Louisville Classic last Saturday, sophomore Jacob Choge has been named Conference USA Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week the conference office announced earlier today.
This is his third C-USA Athlete of the Week honor in his career, and second time earning the honor following the Greater Louisville Classic. Choge was also named C-USA Athlete of the Year last season.
Choge finished sixth in the nationally competitive Louisville, Ky. meet last weekend, finishing in a personal-best time of 23:36.53 in the 8k. He placed only behind runners from No. 1 Northern Arizona and No. 26 Boise State. Choge led the No. 20 MT squad to a sixth place finish overall, besting No. 7 Wisconsin in the process.
"Choge did a great job against the Northern Arizona guys and held his own," said Associate Head Coach Keith Vroman. "He did a good job to do his part to help the team. This award is a good sign for us and for Choge. October is the start of championship season, that's what we call it, so it's a good step heading toward the championships. It's always nice to get accolades for your accomplishments."
Choge and the Raiders now have a week of rest before returning to action to race in the Crimson Classic hosted by Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Oct. 13.
