With today's win, they clinched the 2017 Blue-White World Series
After besting Team Blue Tuesday by a score of 7-3, Team White clinched the 2017 Blue-White World Series three games-to-one.
Team White's offense got going early and often, scoring one run or more in each of the first five innings. Leadoff batter LA Woodard got things started, doubling in the first inning. Two batters later, Blake Benefield brought him home on a line-drive home run off the foul pole in left field.
Offensively, Benefield led the way, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a walk. Brett Stratinsky also hit well, going 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and a walk drawn.
However, Team Blue surged in the bottom of the third to make things competitive. Freshman Myles Christian got Blue on the board with a towering solo home run over the trees in right field. Kevin Sullivan followed that up with a walk, and Austin Dennis advanced him to third on a double.
Both runners would eventually score, bringing the lead to 4-3, but Team White would pile on three more runs in the next two innings to seize control.
Carter Bair got the start on the mound for Team White. Bair only gave up three earned runs on three hits and struck out six batters in his four innings. Newcomer Scheldon Paulk came in for relief in the fifth, allowing zero runs in his only inning.
Finally, Andy Rivera closed the game out, pitching the final two inning without giving up a hit.
For Team Blue, they pitched by committee Tuesday. Despite Conner Bell getting the start, Blake Stansberry, Phil Kunsa and Andy Wright each threw at least one inning.
Despite the series being clinched, game five will be played tomorrow at Reese Smith Jr. Field Wednesday, November 1st at 3:00 p.m. Neither team has announced their starting pitcher.
