Support needed for Cintron, family
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, MTSU Board of Trustees Vice Chair Darrell Freeman and President Sidney A. McPhee have spearheaded an effort to provide relief for Blue Raider basketball great Raymond Cintron and his family.
Cintron, a two-year guard for head men's basketball coach Kermit Davis from 2011-13, has been displaced to Orlando while his family remains in Puerto Rico.
McPhee, Freeman and Davis, as well as Director of Athletics Chris Massaro, are asking the Blue Raider faithful to come to the aid of one of our own by donating the requested supplies at this Thursday's exhibition doubleheader at Murphy Center.
"This is another great opportunity to demonstrate our True Blue spirit," McPhee said. "My thanks to Vice Chair Freeman for initiating this effort and arranging for these needed supplies to reach Raymond and his family."
"This is a really unbelievable gesture by Dr. McPhee and Darrell Freeman to offer their support for a member of our Blue Raider family during a time of need," Davis said. "We would greatly appreciate any of the donations our fans can provide for Raymond and his family."
The women's basketball team will open up the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. against Trevecca before the men face off against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7:30 p.m. Supplies will be accepted at collection points on the upper concourse and by the northeast ramp onto the main floor from the lower level.
"We are all Blue Raiders and one of the great things about this is we are always there for one another," MT Women's Basketball Head Coach Rick Insell said. "A member of our Blue Raider family, Raymond Cintron, and his family are in need following the devastation of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. I'm calling on all of our fans to help support Raymond and his family during this time."
