Women’s Tennis to play in Birmingham this weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After two weeks of training and practice following their first fall event of 2017, Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team is hitting the courts again for the Samford Fall Invitational, starting tomorrow.
"We have been focusing on shot tolerance, being more aggressive in doubles, and trying to identify what this team's culture is," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said about how his squad used the last couple weeks. "They have been working hard and are excited to play again."
All six Blue Raiders will once again take the courts this weekend. Kim Kermet boasts a 2-1 singles record after MT's first event of the fall, the South Carolina Fall Invitational. Four other Blue Raiders earned a singles win in the opening tournament of the fall and have a record of 1-2.
Costanza Magazzini and Lidia Burrows combined for two doubles wins, both shutouts, over Marshall and North Florida. Luisa Zirilli paired with Kermet for a 6-1 win over North Florida, and Maria Josefina Zehnder worked with Marta Peris Herrero on a 6-3 win against Marshall.
"I would like to see them gain some confidence and momentum heading into regionals next week," Ramsay added. "I think we are playing pretty well, we just need to believe in ourselves and compete hard."
