Nine 2017 NCAA teams in field
COLLEGE GROVE - The fourth annual Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove will get underway on Sunday, October 8.
Middle Tennessee will serve as host of the 12-team tournament that will have 18 holes on Sunday, 18 on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to have Franklin American Mortgage back with us as our title sponsor. They are leaders in their industry and their name and involvement, along with our partnership with The Grove Club, has enabled us to attract an elite field for what continues to be one of the top collegiate golf tournament nationally during the fall season," said MT Men's Golf Coach Brennan Webb.
"The game of golf is one of my great passions," said Franklin American Mortgage Company President/CEO Dan Crockett. "It is a privilege to be the title sponsor for this year's event and we wish all of the talented young players the best of luck."
This year's field is the best in the tournament's four-year run with nine programs who competed in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Blue Raiders will compete against Cincinnati, College of Charleston, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana, Memphis, Ole Miss, South Dakota State, South Florida and Troy. Defending Individual champion and the current NCAA Champion, Braden Thornberry, will be in this year's field.
Past winners of the tournament include Ohio State in 2014, Kentucky in 2015 and Ole Miss in 2016.
The Grove Club, which hosted an NCAA Regional last year, is a par 72, 7,368-yard course that opened in 2012. It was designed by former PGA tour player Greg Norman, and it is famous for maintaining the natural character of the land it's on with natural rolling hills, meandering stream beds and native grasses.
Tee times for all three rounds will begin at 8 a.m. on Oct. 8-10. The awards ceremony will be conducted Tuesday after the tournament.
All 10 Blue Raider players will compete in this year's event with a five-man lineup and the remaining five playing as individuals. The Blue Raider lineup will feature junior Marcus Byrd, sophomore Chip Thomas, junior James Beckner, redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson and sophomore Ilari Saulo.
The best finish for the Blue Raiders in the three-year event was third in 2015. The team came in fourth in 2014 and 2016.
Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com and a recap of each round will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com.
