Sophomore honored for second time
MURFREESBORO – Conference USA announced Player of the Week winners on Monday and Middle Tennessee's Khalil Brooks was honored for the second time this season. Brooks brought home the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Brooks, a sophomore from Atlanta,GA, was an unstoppable force against East Division Leading FIU. Brooks had a career high eight tackles, including six solos (also a career high), but he tied a school record with five tackles for loss that proved pivotal in the Blue Raider victory. Brooks tied the school record set in 2005 by J.K. Sabb. His three sacks were just one shy of the school record for that category.
It marks the 70th conference player of the week winner under Rick Stockstill with 21 coming from C-USA and 49 from the Sun Belt. Overall, 22 have been on offense, 27 on defense and 21 on special teams.
