MT Falls to North Texas in C-USA Tournament
11/1/2017 6:08:00 PM | Women's Soccer
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Middle Tennessee soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to North Texas to knock the Raiders out of the C-USA Tournament. MT will end the season with an 8-10 record on the year.
The Mean Green took an early lead off the foot of Brooke Lampe, scoring in the third minute of action. They scored again 23 minutes later after a mass subbing. The fresh legs of Taylor Torrers gave North Texas a 2-0 lead.
Just before halftime, the Blue Raiders got one back. Peyton DePriest was taken down just outside the box and Carolin Engelhard took the ensuing free kick. She put it out wide to a sprinting Taylor Hatch who put it away from a tight outside right angle to make it 2-1.
North Texas' Torres' scored twice in the second half to give the Mean Green the 4-1 win. Once in the beginning of the half and one again in the final minutes.
QUOTABLE
"I thought we played well enough to get a better result. Credit to North Texas, they scored some goals against the run of play and for periods that we dominated, I think if we would've got something in those periods it certainly would have been a different game." – HC Aston Rhoden on tonight's game
"That goal was certainly one our set plays that we have worked on all season, so it was good to see them put it use in a very critical game at a very critical point and for us to get the success we did with it. Credit to our girls for recognizing the situation and being able to execute something they've worked on all season." – HC Aston Rhoden on MT's lone goal
"They gave it their all this year, they are every bit as responsible for our success as the rest of the team. I think we are going to miss their leadership and the manner in which they train and the way they treat their teammates and talk to one another. I think we are really going to miss that, but I also think they were very instrumental in doing those things that the younger players have learned from them and will carry those traditions on." – HC Aston Rhoden on MT's three seniors
"Knowing that it is not how we start the season it is how we finish it. Nobody expected us to be here and we showed a lot of character throughout the season. We showed a lot of adversity through a lot of injuries and we were still able to get ourselves to this position. We will move forward with the attitude and the position that if we keep working and continue to believe in what we're doing, that eventually we will see the results we want. I think tonight, we just fell a little bit short." – HC Aston Rhoden on what the team will take away from the C-USA Tournament experience
NOTABLE
- This is the third time that North Texas has knocked Middle Tennessee out of the C-USA Tournament
- Taylor Hatch recorded her fifth goal of the season, to move to second on the squad in points with 12
WHAT'S NEXT?
That will close the season for MT. The Raiders will return to the field in the spring in preparation for the 2018 season.
