MURRAY, Ky. – After a convincing win to open the season on Friday Middle Tennessee hits the road for its first Division I test of the season as the Blue Raiders take on Murray State Monday evening at the CFSB Center.
The Blue Raiders and Racers are meeting for the 140th time in series history and fifth season in a row dating back to 2013. Despite Murray State holding the all-time advantage, the series is even, 2-2, in the last four years with Middle Tennessee winning last season's meeting in Murfreesboro, 87-81.
Senior guard Giddy Potts is averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the last two meetings between the Racers and Raiders, which includes a 76-65 loss when the teams met in Murray two seasons ago.
Potts notched 15 points and five boards in MT's season opener against Trevecca while senior forward Nick King had 17 points and six rebounds in his Blue Raider debut and Antwain Johnson added 16 points.
Murray State opened the season Friday with a similar performance, downing NAIA member Brescia 118-61.
The Racers rode a stellar 28-point performance from Byron Hawkins to the victory while five other Racers added double-digit performances.
Middle Tennessee and Murray State are set to tip at 7:00 p.m. Monday night in Murray, Ky.
