MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off a thrilling win at Murray State on Monday, Middle Tennessee turns the page towards another Ohio Valley Conference foe as it hosts Belmont Thursday on Community Heroes Night.
Thursday's meeting marks the 38th matchup between the two schools and the 15th meeting since 2004. Despite the Bruins holding a slight advantage in that time, going 8-7, the Blue Raiders have been victorious in the previous two games by a combined 34 points, including last season's 79-66 win in the Curb Event Center.
Upperclassmen Giddy Potts and Antwain Johnson combined for 27 points in last season's game where the Blue Raiders shot 47 percent from the field and 45 percent from three. MT also notched 17 assists on their 28 made baskets compared to only five turnovers against the Bruins in 2016.
Despite their 1-1 record, the Bruins are coming off a commanding victory over Vanderbilt where they saw forwards Dylan Windler and Amanze Egekeze combine for 46 points and 18 rebounds.
The Bruins' lone defeat came at the hands of the Washington Huskies by a score of 86-82 in Seattle. Both teams will look to capitalize on their momentum earlier this week and use that in Thursday's game.
Although the 2017 season is still in its infancy, both MT and Belmont have a common opponent, Trevecca. The Bruins squared off against the Trojans in an exhibition to benefit Hurricane Harvey victims, a game they won comfortably 91-64.
Trevecca then traveled to Murfreesboro for Middle Tennessee's first official game of the season in which the Blue Raiders earned a commanding 104-52 victory.
Prior to the game, fans are invited to arrive early to explore Rutherford County first responder vehicles on the concourse outside the Murphy Center main entrance area. During the game, members of the MT Police Department, Rutherford County Police Department, Rutherford County EMS and Rutherford County Fire and Rescue will be recognized.
The Blue Raiders and Bruins are scheduled to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night in Murphy Center. Tickets are on sale at GoBlueRaiders.com/tickets. The game will also be streamed by Stadium on Facebook.
