MT on the road again this weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – As Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team comes down the final stretch of the fall season with two fall events remaining, four Blue Raiders are slated to compete at the Harvard Fall Invitational this weekend.
"This weekend will be a great tournament with some really good teams," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said of the event. "We're continuing to stress to the team we're a really good group as well, and they need to expect more from themselves on a daily basis."
Maria Josefina Zehnder was the at the top of the MT singles lineup a year ago and has played at a high level up to this point in the fall, posting a 7-4 record. The second-year Blue Raider won five matches in a row over a two-event period and advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Also posting a five-match win streak at one point this fall was Costanza Magazzini. The Italian has a 7-6 mark in singles after four events this fall. She and doubles partner Lidia Burrows claimed the Flight 1 Doubles title at last weekend's TCU Fall Invitational.
Transfer Kim Kermet currently owns a 5-4 mark in singles in her first fall as a Blue Raider. Two losses have come to players from nationally ranked teams, and she is 2-0 in matches that end in a third set. Kermet won two matches on her new home courts, the ATC, at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional to advance to the Round of 32.
With three events behind her this fall, Marta Peris Herrero will be looking to add to her four singles wins. Herrero advanced to the finals in her draw at the Samford Fall Invitational and claimed two victories in straight sets at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional. She is 5-3 in doubles on the year and partnered with Luisa Zirilli to win their doubles flight at the Samford Fall invitational.
"We've been getting better in doubles slowly throughout the fall," Ramsay added. "We still have some work to do, but we're coming off a great weekend at TCU with quality wins. We're heading in the right direction."
Score updates from the weekend will be posted on the Blue Raiders' social media sites, @MT_WomensTennis on Twitter and MTSU Women's Tennis on Facebook.
