Raiders host No.25 WKU on Sunday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team hosts No. 25 Western Kentucky in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:00p.m.
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders dropped their home contest in three sets versus Austin Peay (25-13, 32-20, 25-15) on Wednesday evening in the Alumni Memorial Gym. However, Middle Tennessee did not give up without a fight. The Blue Raiders battled through 16 lead changes in the second frame before falling to Austin Peay in extra points, 32-30.
Overall, the Blue Raiders offense was paced by sophomore Dora Peonia (13) and junior Makila York (12) who inked a combined 25 kills while the backrow was led by sophomore Brienna Tankesley, recording five digs in the match.
Series History versus the Lady Toppers
Earlier this season, the Blue Raiders fell in straight-sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) to the Lady Toppers in Bowling Green, Ky. Despite the loss, redshirt-sophomore Alyssa Mathis showed power from the middle recording a career-high nine kills while hitting on a .533 clip.
Likewise, the Blue Raiders posted their best offensive outing over the Lady Toppers in the third and final frame inking a .345 hitting percentage. Similarly, sophomore Dora Peonia notched 11 kills while adding five digs and two service aces versus WKU.
The Lady Toppers lead the overall series history over Middle Tennessee, 42-15.
Scouting No. 25 WKU
The Lady Toppers boast a perfect season in Conference USA play (12-0) while only recording two losses this season to Louisville (3-1) and Illinois (3-0). WKU has swept their competition 19 times this season including a straight-set sweep of No. 25 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Their success has rightfully earned their team a spot on the top-25 AVCA rankings.
WKU inks a .342 hitting percentage this season to lead the conference. Their offense is paced by senior outside hitter Alyssa Cavanaugh who has recorded 370 kills this season to average 4.11 k/s to top the conference standings in kills.
Likewise, the Lady Topper's backrow is paced by sophomore Emma Kowalkowski (266) and senior Sydney Engle (224) recording a combined 490 digs in all 90 WKU sets this season.
