Averaged 24 points, 5.7 rebounds last week
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In just his second week of action for Middle Tennessee, senior forward Nick King has been named Conference USA Player of the Week for his performances against Murray State, Belmont and Tennessee State last week.
King averaged 24 points and 5.7 rebounds per game against the OVC trio while adding six assists and four steals in the three-game stretch.
The Memphis, Tennessee, native shot 63 percent (29-of-46) from the field and 50 percent (5-of-10) from three while going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line on the week as he led the Blue Raiders to a pair of road wins.
"I think he's very deserving, he's gotten off to a wonderful start," Head Coach Kermit Davis said. "He still sees a lot of areas where he can improve his game so hopefully we will see his maturation continue over the next three months.
"Nick expects a lot of himself and based on his work there is no question he's made a ton of progress since June. I'm just happy in the fifth year of his college career that he's seeing early success."
The skilled post man poured in a career-high 31 points against Murray State in his first road appearance for MT, going 12-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. He has led the Raiders in scoring in every game so far this season.
King and the Blue Raiders are back in action Tuesday night as they host Florida Gulf Coast in a matchup between mid-major powers.
