OXFORD, Miss. – After recording another victory over UNC Asheville on Sunday, the Lady Raiders advanced to 4-0 on the season for the first time since 1995. The team will look to continue upon its success on Wednesday, traveling to Oxford, Mississippi, to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the Pavilion.
Scouting the Rebels
Mississippi opened its season with a 75-44 home victory over Northwestern State. Since recording their first win, the Rebels have added another four and have only notched one loss this season at the Maggie Dixon Classic to Saint Louis, 79-64, to ink a 5-1 record.
The offensive players to watch from Ole Miss include junior guard Madinah Muhammad and freshman forward Promise Taylor. Muhammad has racked up 123 points in her 174 minutes of playing time to post the most points of any Rebel this season. The 5-foot-8 guard averages 20.5 points per game while adding 26 assists during six games of play. Meanwhile, Taylor stands tall, at 6-foot-5, to help Ole Miss control the paint. The Issaquah, Wash., product averages 12.7 points per game and notches the second-best field goal percentage on the team with 35-of-53 baskets made (.660).
On the defensive end, (Taylor) shows her strength on the glass averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. Likewise, senior guard Shandricka Sessom shows her versatility on the court, inking 40 rebounds and averaging 17.7 points per game after six outings for the Rebels.
Overall, Mississippi leads the series over Middle Tennessee, 13-6; however, the Lady Raiders have won the last four meetings.
