Caudill, Smith join Blue Raider golf
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head Coach Chris Adams announced Wednesday the addition of two signees to the Middle Tennessee women's golf program.
High school standouts Catherine Caudill and Madison Smith submitted National Letters of Intent to join the Blue Raiders for the 2018-19 season.
Caudill is the younger sister of current Blue Raider freshman Caroline Caudill and will become the third Rossview High School product on Adams' roster as the sisters followed the same path of current junior Hanley Long to Murfreesboro from Clarksville.
The younger Caudill finished eighth in this summer's Tennessee Girls' Junior Championship with a 5-over par 219 (74-70-75) and more recently tied for state runner-up in the TSSAA Class AAA State Championship at even par (72-72=144). Caudill was a First Team All-Midstate selection following her junior season at Rossview.
"Catherine Caudill is a great addition to the team and I am looking forward to her arrival and watching her and Caroline compete together," Adams said. "She has a great personality and is fun to be around, and with her strong, competitive side she will be able to compete with anyone. Those qualities she has will allow her to be very successful at this level."
Smith joins the Blue Raiders from Randall Cooper High School where she notched four individual titles and six more Top 5 finishes during her junior season before being named to the KHSAA All-State Second Team. Smith also earned Region 6 Player of the Year and 2016 Kentucky Enquirer Co-Player of the Year honors and is the only conference champion, regional champion and three-time state qualifier in school history.
The Union, Ky., native also collected an first place finish in her lone Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event during the past year to go along with four titles on the Mussleman-Dunne Golf Tour on which she won Player of the Year honors.
"Madison Smith is a player with a very even-keel personality on the course, which is very good in this sport where you don't let your emotions get the best of you," Adams stated. "She is solid in all parts of her game and I know that she will compete right away. Her personality will be a great fit and I am excited to get a chance to see her excel at the collegiate level. "
The duo complete Adams' class for the early signing period as the Blue Raiders lose only one senior following the 2017-18 season. Caudill and Smith are both expected to have the talent level to compete for spots in the Blue Raider lineup early in their career at Middle Tennessee.
"By losing only one senior this year and bringing in these two quality players, I see the future being very bright," Adams added. "We will have some added depth to the roster and this will make competition amongst them greater, only making us stronger as a team. As a coach, I am very excited and looking forward to the opportunity to build on our team's success in recent years."
