MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's basketball is officially back in the Murphy Center Friday as head coach Kermit Davis and the Blue Raiders host the Trevecca Trojans at 11:00 a.m.
The contest will serve as Rutherford County Schools Day with nearly 6,000 fourth and fifth grade children from across the county joining the Blue Raiders to open the college basketball season. At least 20 different schools will be represented at the game geared towards using sports as an educational platform for local schools.
Blue Raider fans will see familiar faces leading the backcourt with preseason all-conference selection Giddy Potts leading a talented group of guards that includes fellow returners Edward Simpson, Tyrik Dixon and Antwain Johnson.
With guard play now the apparent strength in 2017-18 after the graduation of Reggie Upshaw and JaCorey Williams, Middle Tennessee remains the favorite in Conference USA as the league office announced the Blue Raiders as the top pick in its preseason poll on Oct. 26.
The Blue Raiders also earned four votes in the season-opening Associated Press Top 25 Poll released on Nov. 1, marking six consecutive AP polls in which the Blue Raiders have received votes dating back to February 13.
The Blue Raiders and Trojans will be meeting for just the third time with Middle Tennessee winning both previous contests. The last meeting between the two occurred in Dec. 2015 with the Raiders winning 82-67.
General admission tickets for Friday's contest can be purchased from the Blue Raider Ticket Office for just $7.
