MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the second time in as many games, Middle Tennessee will square off against the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, December 2nd. While last game was in the friendly confines of Murphy Center, this time the Blue Raiders will travel to 'Dunk City'.
Middle Tennessee won the first bout against Florida Gulf Coast, 85-72 in a game they led by as many as 22 points. Nick King was the high-point man with 25 for the Blue Raiders. However, point guard Tyrik Dixon was the key to victory, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and only one turnover.
"At times, I thought we played our best basketball of the season," said head coach Kermit Davis.
The Blue Raiders hope to continue that momentum, but know that beating a team like Florida Gulf Coast in their own gym is a difficult challenge.
"(Florida Gulf Coast) has played really well since our game though, winning four games in a row," Davis added. "They've always had such an unbelievable home record and they currently carry a top 100 RPI, so it'll be a big game for both teams."
Both the Blue Raiders and Eagles have each made the NCAA Tournament three times in the previous five years. This is only the second meeting of the two teams in either program's history.
The Eagles get the majority of their scoring contributions from their backcourt. Through six games, the Eagles starting guards Brandon Goodwin (16 ppg) and Zach Johnson (15.9) are both shooting a combined 70-of-202 (35 percent) from the field .
Against the Blue Raiders, Goodwin and Johnson combined for 38 points, but only shot a combined 9-of-24 from the field and had nine turnovers. No other player for the Eagles scored in double figures.
Senior starter Christian Terrell is also providing major scoring contributions for the Eagles, averaging 14.6 points per game. He is also 61 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.
The Blue Raiders and Eagles are scheduled to tip at 6:00 inside Alico Arena. Tickets are on sale at GoBlueRaiders.com/tickets. The game will also be streamed on ESPN3.
