Averaged 24.7 points, eight rebounds in Honolulu
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After three strong performances in the Diamond Head Classic that led the Blue Raiders to a win against Princeton and two narrow losses to Power 5 opponents USC and No. 15 Miami, senior forward Nick King has been named Conference USA's Player of the Week.
The award is his third of the season, the most by any player in the league in 2017-18, as the Memphis native logged 24.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while he added 10 assists during the three-game stretch against a trio of 2017 NCAA Tournament teams in Honolulu.
King led the Blue Raiders in scoring and rebounding in all three games beginning with an 18-point, 5-rebound outing against Princeton. His 28 points and 11 rebounds against Preseason Top 10 team USC were game highs as were his 28 points and eight rebounds against No. 15 Miami.
The lefty has proven to be a proficient scorer at all levels, and this week was no different as he shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from 3-point range, and 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the free throw line.
Despite going 1-2 in Honolulu, King and the Blue Raiders proved they could play with anyone in the country as the losses to USC and Miami came by just a combined eight points.
Middle Tennessee has now finished non-confernce play and will open Conference USA play Saturday, Dec. 30, at UAB.
