MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Senior forward Nick King has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday following his performance against Florida Gulf Coast.
King, a Memphis, Tenn. native, posted career highs in scoring (32), rebounds (11), assists (4) and minutes played (37) in the Blue Raiders 81-76 victory in Fort Myers over the Eagles. Alongside his 11-of-21 shooting, King also went 10-14 from the free throw line.
Currently, King ranks second in Conference USA and fifth in the country in scoring (24.3 points per game) while shooting 60.2/46.2/85 percent on the floor. The senior forward is also averaging 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
If his numbers continue, King would be the first Blue Raider since Milton Dean in 1994 to average over 20 points per game in a single season. At his current scoring output, he is also on pace to pass the most points per game of any Blue Raider in program history, a 49-year record set by Willie Brown (23.3 points) in 1969.
King aims to continue his momentum this week as the Blue Raiders face two SEC opponents when they travel to Nashville to face Vanderbilt on Wednesday and take on Ole Miss at home on Saturday.
