LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team improved to 5-2 after clinching an Education Day victory over the Coppin State Eagles, 69-39. The Lady Raiders have enjoyed a great partnership with Murfreesboro City Schools for its annual Education Day game, which is the largest event of its kind nationally.
Scouting No. 4 Louisville
Louisville's women's basketball team opened its season with an 80-40 victory over Southeast Missouri on Nov. 11. The Cardinals then added another nine straight wins to remain undefeated, inking a 10-0 overall record this season. The team's biggest victories in pre-season included a 95-90 overtime victory over No. 5 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, and a 74-61 victory over No. 10 Oregon at home in the KFC YUM! Center.
Junior guard Asia Durr paces the Cardinal offense recording, 183 points this season to average 18.3 per game. Similarly, senior Myisha Hines-Allen has recorded 141 points in the Cardinals' first 10 outings. The 6-foot-2 forward inks the teams second-best field goal percentage (.586), hitting 65-of-111 from the field.
Likewise, Hines-Allen remains active on the glass, posting 101 rebounds to average 10.1 per game.
Overall, Louisville leads the all-time series over the Lady Raiders, 5-1. Middle Tennessee clinched its first victory (94-84) over the Cardinals on Dec. 9, 2009, in Freedom Hall.
Lady Raiders Rank Among Top-25, Nationally
The Lady Raiders rank fifth nationally in scoring defense holding competitors to an average of 50.7 points per game. Similarly, the team ranks 25th among Division I participants in 3-point defense, holding contestants to an average of 24.3 points per game from distance.
Louro Leads Offense to 69-39 Victory over Coppin State
Junior Jess Louro led the team's offense over Coppin State, tallying 18 points during her 32 minutes of playing time. The 5-foot-10 guard also added nine rebounds and two assists during the Dec. 5 contest.
Louro respectively leads the Lady Raiders in points (89) after just seven outings this season. The Wall, New Jersey native is 20-of-55 (.364) from distance and 13-of-15 (.867) from the charity stripe.
Likewise, sophomore Charity Savage recorded her best game of her Lady Raider career against Coppin State tallying a career-best 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists over the Eagles.
Middle Tennessee picked up 18 of its points from the bench with help from senior Rebecca Reuter (8) and junior LaSonja Edwards (6).
Middle Tennessee Returns to the Murphy Center
The squad returns to Murfreesboro on Thursday, Dec. 14, to host the Troy Trojans in the Murphy Center with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
