MT tied for fifth after round one at Florida State

Gotcher, Burris in Top 10 with under par rounds
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Middle Tennessee closed the opening round of the Florida State Match-Up tied for fifth place with a team score of 5-over 293.
The Blue Raiders are tied with Missouri through 18 holes and four strokes back of fourth-place Minnesota.
MT sits two strokes ahead of No. 20 Oklahoma and five strokes ahead of No. 44 Virginia, while No. 13 South Carolina set the pace on day one with a 10-under 278.
Samantha Gotcher led the way for MT in the first round of action, logging five birdies and finishing the day in a tie for sixth at 2-under par (70).
Jenna Burris is just one stroke back of Gotcher at 1-under (71) and joins the senior in the Top 10 in the field of 66.
After opening the day strong at 1-under through the first five holes, Hanley Long gave four strokes back in the remainder of the round to finish day one at 3-over par (75) and tied for 34th.
Cynthia Bounleutay carded a 5-over 77 in her first round as a Blue Raider and finds herself in a tie for 45th, one stroke ahead of Katherine Holmes at 6-over (78).
