MT falls to ninth on day two
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A second round 11-over 299 saw the Blue Raiders fall Saturday to ninth place through 36 of 54 holes at the Florida State Match-Up.
Middle Tennessee's Samantha Gotcher remains in the Top 10 in the field of 66 while Jenna Burris stands tied for 18th. Gotcher logged three more birdies today and Burris had four, giving the pair eight each through two rounds, good for eighth-most in the tournament.
"Today wasn't quite as good of a round as we wanted," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We just started out a little slowly as a team. We struggled a little bit on the back nine which was our front nine today and had to battle back the second half of the day.
"The golf course played a little different today with some different hole locations but we managed to keep ourselves in contention with a chance to move back up the standings on the final day."
Gotcher's second round of even par 72 leaves her 2-under (70-72=142) for the tournament and tied for sixth place, five strokes back of the lead. Burris was 2-over (74) on the day and is now 1-over (71-74=145) in the tournament.
"Samantha being tied for sixth in this field is awesome," Adams added. "She's been very steady and has her game face on. She's hitting it well and I'm very proud of what she's done so far in a very talented field."
Sophomore Hanley Long played well through the first several holes again on day two, but saw the back nine drop her to a 5-over 77 finish. The Clarksville native is now tied for 44th at 8-over par (75-77=152).
Junior Cynthia Bounleutay shaved a stroke off of her opening round score, posting a 4-over 76 to sit one shot behind Long in a tie for 49th at 9-over (77-76=153).
Freshman Katherine Holmes rounds out the Blue Raider five with an 11-over (78-77=155) two-day total after a 5-over second round.
Middle Tennessee is now 16-over (299-293=592) for the tournament and remains within eight strokes of the Top five.
Sunday marks the final day at Seminole Golf Club with tee times beginning at 7:00 a.m. CT. Holmes will tee off first for MT at 7:54 a.m. CT of the 10th tee. Live scoring can be followed at www.GolfStat.com.
