Final Results
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A strong start to the final day of the Florida State Match-Up saw Middle Tennessee climb into the Top Five before going 12-over after the turn to finish the day with a 12-over 300.
The Blue Raiders dropped to 10th by the end of the day, closing out the tournament with 28-over 892 (293-299-300).
The final round outcome was a reversal of day two, where the Blue Raiders started slow but closed out strong.
"We really started strong today but made the turn and didn't really maintain the same momentum," head coach Chris Adams said. "We just didn't finish like we would of hoped."
Jenna Burris logged the top score for MT on Sunday, carding a 1-over 73 to finish 2-over (71-74-73-218) on the weekend, tying for 19th place.
The sophomore was one of the best in the field on the Par 4 holes at 2-over (4.07), tying for the sixth-best mark in the tournament on 30 Par 4 holes played.
Samantha Gotcher joined Burris in a tie for 19th after shooting a 4-over 76 on the final day, finishing the tournament at 2-over par (70-72-76=218).
Freshman Katherine Holmes logged her best round of the weekend on Sunday with a 3-over 75. She finished tied for 49th at 14-over par (78-77-75=230).
Holmes was fifth-best in the field of 66 on Par 3 holes, going 1-under (2.92) for the tournament in 12 Par 3 holes played.
Sophomore Hanley Long (75-77-77=229) and junior Cynthia Bounleutay (77-76-76=229) each finished one stroke ahead of Holmes and tied for 47th in the field.
The Blue Raiders were 18 strokes clear of 11th-place Coastal Carolina while finishing just two strokes back of ninth-place Michigan State and four strokes back of eighth-place Virginia.
Middle Tennessee returns to Florida for their next tournament as they compete in the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., on Feb. 27-March 1.
"We have about two weeks to get ready for Miami, so we are going to work our tails off on our short game," Adams added. "With it being our first tournament and early February, we know we have some time to get ready for the rest of the spring."
