Second MT freshman to earn honor this year
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee freshman men's golfer Chip Thomas has been voted the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday. It marks the third honor for the Blue Raiders this season and the second by a freshman.
Thomas led the 44th ranked Blue Raiders to a strong eighth place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic against a field that had 11 of 15 teams ranked in the nation's top 50.
Thomas turned his best tournament as a collegian in Puerto Rico. The Knoxville, Tenn., native had his career-best finish and best 54-hole total at the Puerto Rico Classic by grabbing a T7 with a 213 total. Thomas had rounds of 70-72-71.
Thomas ranked second in the entire field in par 3 scoring at 2-under and was a combined 5-under par on the par 3s and par 5s combined.
