MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders are back on the road Tuesday, for a mid-week game against Austin Peay Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
This will be the 130th meeting between the two programs with the 131st meeting coming later in the season. The Blue Raiders lead the series 87-42. In 2016, MT swept the two-game series.
Middle Tennessee looks to improve upon its 2-1 showing in this past weekend's Mule Mix Classic. The Blue Raiders exploded on offense for 31 runs in the first two games of the series, including 20 runs Saturday night against Bowling Green, which was the most runs scored by MT since 2013 and the most by a Conference USA team this year.
Middle Tennessee is hitting .309 as team, which ranks 5th in C-USA, along with ranking 4th in doubles (16) and hits (83).
Senior Kaleb King is having a strong start for MT, batting .452 on the year, including ranking 5th in C-USA with 14 hits.
Four Blue Raiders are hitting over .350 early on, including the aforementioned King, sophomores Austin Dennis and Drew Huff, and senior Riley Delgado.
The Blue Raider pitching staff has been fanning batters left and right, accumulating 76 strikeouts in the first seven games, good enough for 2nd in C-USA.
Redshirt freshman Devin Conn will be on the bump again for MT Tuesday. Conn is 1-1 on the year with a 3.52 ERA, while holding opponents to a .174 batting average. The two-way player started in right field all three games of the Mule Mix Classic. The Parkland, Fla., native was last week's Wednesday starter against Lipscomb.
Austin Peay is coming off a 9-3 win Sunday against No. 6 NC State. The Governors improved to over .500 win the win, after dropping two games against the Wolfpack Friday and Saturday. APSU will be starting LHP Josh Rye on the mound. The southpaw has an impressive 1.93 ERA this season in two appearances.
