MT suffers loss at Austin Peay
2/28/2017 7:09:00 PM | Baseball
Drew Huff and Aaron Aucker Homered in the loss
The Blue Raiders (3-5) fell behind 9-1 early, pulled within one run in the sixth, before the Governors (5-3) exploded offensively to close out the game.
Sophomore Drew Huff blasted the first home run of his career the second play of the game, with a shot to right center field to put MT up 1-0. Huff finished the game going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI and a triple shy of the cycle.
Austin Peay struck back in the bottom of the frame with three runs of its own. The Governors added another six runs off a three-run homer, and multiple wild pitches, APSU lead 9-1 after three frames.
Blue Raiders showed some life in the fifth putting up a five-spot in the frame. Sophomore Blake Benefield got the inning started with a leadoff single to left. After a Kevin Sullivan walk, Riley Delgado ripped his second single of the game to left field to load the bases.
Two runs came across for the Blue Raiders after a wild pitch, a Dennis single, and a throwing error by Austin Peay. Redshirt Junior Aaron Aucker came to the plate with one on and one out, and absolutely crushed the ball over the center field wall for his first home run of the year. That pulled MT within three runs, 9-6 after five innings.
Middle Tennessee added two more runs in the sixth to close the Austin Peay lead to 9-8. Huff and Aucker had back-to-back RBI-singles to score the two Blue Raider runs.
The Governors were not to be outdone offensively, adding another run in the sixth to make the score 10-8. APSU raked in 11 runs in the seventh and eighth to put the game out of reach.
The Blue Raiders are back at Reese Smith Jr. Field Friday to take on Kennesaw State in a three-game home series. Game one set for 3 p.m.
