MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis takes a two-match win streak into another challenging weekend of dual matches, as they face Wisconsin on the road Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a match vs. Western Michigan Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders will face the Badgers in Madison, Wisconsin, for the first time in matchup history. The all-time series is tied a 1-1, with both matches being played at neutral sites. Wisconsin boasts a 2-0 record on the young season and are one of five Big Ten teams still undefeated.
Wisconsin opened their season Jan. 28 by taking down Valpo, 4-3, and South Dakota State, 7-0. The Badgers seem to have formed the right combination of returning talent with newcomers, as ace Josef Dodridge, who posted a 10-9 mark at No. 1 last season, returns to lead Wisconsin again. The top of the lineup will be filled out by Lamar Remy and Osgar O'Hoisin; both spent some time at the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots in the lineup a year ago.
Western Michigan travels to Tennessee this weekend with a 3-2 record before facing Vanderbilt Saturday and Middle Tennessee on Sunday at the ATC.
Broncos' head coach Dave Morin became the winningest coach in Western Michigan program history when the Broncos defeated Green Bay, 5-2, in their last time on the courts. Morin's team swept MAC Player of the Week awards following the win over Green Bay, as Matej Svjetlicic won Singles Player of the Week from the No. 5 spot, along with doubles combo Billy Heckman and Nick Schnobel, who earned Doubles Team of the Week.
The bottom of the Western Michigan lineup continues to show is strength, as Eric Olivarez is currently on a three-match win streak at the No. 6 spot in the lineup. Broncos' ace Kennosuke Nouchi has a 3-2 mark on the 2017 dual match season.
The Blue Raiders and Broncos get underway at 11 a.m. on Sunday, and there is free admission. Live stats will be available, and you can follow the Blue Raiders on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis, and like them on Facebook, MTSU Men's Tennis.
