Raiders claim 10 victories at MTSU Invite

MT prepping for C-USA Championships
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — In one of the final meets before the Conference USA Championships, Middle Tennessee enjoyed a solid day at its annual MTSU Invite Saturday.
Ten Blue Raiders claimed first-place finishes Saturday in Murphy Center.
Newcomer Solomon Afful followed his C-USA Athlete of the Week performances from last weekend with two victories in the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter run. The junior finished the 55 meter with a time of 6.38, while finishing the 200 meter clocking in at 21.28.
Geoffry Cheruiyot grabbed a first-place win in the mile run with a time of 4:16.20, while Amos Cheruiyot took first in the 3000-meter run with a mark of 8:51.72.
The Blue Raider relay team of Ifiok Umoh, Nathan Mack, Adeniji Adedamola and Trevon Sanders also took first in the men's mile relay, clocking in at 3:20.80.
In the field, MT's Jacob Patten took first in the men's high jump with a leap of 6'7.75" (2.03 meters), while Phillip Smith won the triple jump event with a 49'8.50" (15.15 meters) mark.
On the women's side, the Blue Raiders shined in the 400-meter run. Loveth Odia led the pack with a time of 54.57 to claim first place. Behind Odia, MT's Shaina Johnson and Taylor Day turned in third and fourth-place finishes with times of 56.65 and 57.41, respectively.
Odia also placed first in the 200 meter event with a personal-best mark of 24.07.
Sophomore Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad had a successful day in the field, as she placed first in the high jump with a 5'4.25" leap, and took second in the long jump with an 18'8" mark.
With indoor national qualifiers in reach, Middle Tennessee will gear up at the Music City Challenge next weekend hosted by Vanderbilt before the C-USA Championships.
