2017 staff now complete
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill announced today the hiring of Austin Silvoy as the programs wide receivers coach. Silvoy replaces Kez McCorvey.
Silvoy is no stranger to the program as he served as quality control coach for Stockstill in 2016.
"Austin was with our staff last year in an off the field position and did an excellent job," said Stockstill. "I was impressed with his work ethic, communication skills and how he understood our offense. He will also do a great job in recruiting."
Prior to arriving in Murfreesboro, Silvoy spent four years at Florida Tech where he worked with the wide receivers and was the director for international recruiting.
Behind Silvoy's direction, Florida International transfer T.J. Lowder became a go-to option for the Panthers in his lone season in Crimson in Gray in 2015. Lowder hauled in 46 passes, third most in the Gulf South Conference, for 616 yards and five scores.
Silvoy coached two of the top receivers in the Gulf South Conference during FIT's first two seasons in Xavier Milton and Aaron George. In 2014, Milton earned DAKTRONICS Second Team All-American, First Team All-Super Region 2, Gulf South Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GSC honors, adding to his First Team All-GSC selection in 2014. During his two-year Panther career, Milton racked up 2,054 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.
George seemed to score nothing but touchdowns over the course of his Panther career. He reeled in 15 scores during his two years in Crimson and Gray including nine in 2014, second most in the GSC. George also accumulated 881 receiving yards.
Before joining FIT, he was the wide receivers and tight ends coach at the University of Central Oklahoma. He was also the Bronchos' video coordinator. While at UCO, Silvoy coached future NFL long snapper and tight end Bryce Davis, who signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Silvoy played college football at Troy University from 2006-10. A redshirt in 2006, he lettered in his final four seasons (2007-10) as a wide receiver for the Trojans. He caught 45 passes in his career, finding the end zone six times. During his five seasons at Troy, the Trojans won five consecutive Sun Belt Conference Championships and competed in four bowl games.
A Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, native, Silvoy starred as a member of the Nease High School football team in St. Augustine, Fla. In 2005, Silvoy recorded 63 receptions for 1,172 yards and seven touchdowns while also rushing 15 times for 200 yards and two scores to help his team win the Class 4A State title with a 15-2 record. His quarterback at Nease was 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow.
"I played against Middle Tennessee when I was at Troy and always respected Coach Stockstill and the program," said Silvoy. "Joining his staff on a full-time basis is like a dream come true because he is one of the best in the business.
"I am also excited about being able to keep working with Coach (Tony) Franklin while developing our receiving corps."
