CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Middle Tennessee matched its day two total by firing a 7-over 295 on day three of the Hurricane Invitational to finish in eighth place at 29-over (303-295-295=893) for the tournament.
For the third consecutive day the Blue Raiders logged an eagle, giving them three on the week and behind only host Miami. Wednesday's eagle was courtesy of senior Samantha Gotcher, who holed out her third shot on the Par 5 seventh hole, her first hole of the day.
"We played pretty well again today, but just had a couple of hiccups," head coach Chris Adams said. "Next time out we just need to make a few more putts to move up the leaderboard."
The eagle helped Gotcher to a 1-over 73 on the final day, giving her a three-day total of 6-over par (76-73-73=222) and placing her tied for 28th in the field.
Sophomore Jenna Burris led the Blue Raiders in the event, finishing tied for 13th as her final round 3-over 75 put her at 3-over par (71-73-75=219) for the week.
Burris also led the field of 86 in Par 5 scoring, finishing eight strokes under par in her 12 Par 5 holes on the week.
Fellow sophomore Hanley Long had the best round of the day for the Blue Raiders, carding an even par 72 to finish one stroke back of Gotcher at 7-over (78-73-72=223) and tied for 33rd.
Cynthia Bounleutay matched Burris on Wednesday with a 3-over 75. She finished the tournament at 13-over (78-76-75=229) and tied for 55th.
The junior posted the 20th best Par 3 score in the field, going even par on the week in 12 Par 3 holes played.
Freshman Katherine Holmes logged her best round of the tournament on the final day with a 6-over 78 and was 23-over (80-81-78=239) on the week.
