MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team opened up the Conference USA slate on Saturday, March 11 with a 3-0 loss to WKU under light snowfall. The Raiders move to 9-9 on the year and 0-1 in conference play while WKU is now 14-9, 1-0.
The Hilltoppers three runs all came from the bat of Adarian Gray. Gray hit two home runs in two at bats, lifting a two-run shot over left center in the second inning and a solo homer in the fourth near the foul pole in left.
The Raiders mustered four hits in the game. Three game off the bat of Summer Burgess in her four at bats. Precious Birdsong also had a hit in the game, an infield single.
Middle's best chance to get on the board came in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs. Burgess beat out an infield single and Birdsong followed with a hit up the middle. Kirstyn Cuccia then walked to load the bases but MT was unable to push a run across.
Cori Jennings took the loss in the circle to move to 5-5 on the year despite striking out a season-high seven batters.
MT and WKU return to the Blue Raider Softball Field tomorrow, March 12 for a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
