MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders are back home for a three-game series against Kennesaw State, game one set for 3 p.m. Friday at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
Friday's game will be the 10th meeting between the two programs. The two teams have met for a three-game series three of the last four years. MT leads the series 6-3, including taking the series last year at the Owls place 2-1. The Blue Raiders won last year's rubber match in extras, 8-6.
Middle Tennessee looks to rebound from its Tuesday loss at Austin Peay. Offense has been a bright spot in the Blue Raiders season so far, ranking 33rd in the nation with 93 hits in the season. MT also ranks 54th in the nation with an impressive .303 team batting average.
The Blue Raiders have five starters in its lineup hitting .323 or better through the first eight games. Seniors Riley Delgado and Kaleb King, are tied for seventh in Conference USA with 14 hits apiece. Redshirt junior Aaron Aucker is sixth in C-USA with 11 RBI. Murfreesboro native, Drew Huff has had a hot bat of late, improving his average to .417 on the year.
Junior Jake Wyrick will be on the mound for the third straight Friday to start the season for the Blue Raiders. The southpaw picked up his first win of the season last week in MT's 11-4 victory. Wyrick went six innings, allowing three runs, and for the second straight week six strikeouts.
Sophomore Carson Lester gets the nod Saturday. Lester improved in his second start of his career last Sunday, throwing four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks against Missouri State. The Murfreesboro native, was a key reliever for MT in 2016, as he looks to make the transition to a starting role.
With JUCO transfer Tyler Hasper being out with a shoulder injury, the Sunday starter is still TBD for MT.
Kennesaw State will be starting all RHP for the weekend. Tony Dibrell will start Friday, AJ Moore Saturday, and Gabe Friese will get the start for the Owls to close out the series. KSU is coming off a 5-4 win against Georgia Tuesday.
