FINAL RESULTS
GREENSBORO, GA – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team finished 11th at the Linger Longer Invitational with a final round 291 on Tuesday. The No. 45 Blue Raiders carded an 874 54-hole total on the Reynolds Lake Oconee golf course (par 72, 7,073 yards).
No. 4 ranked Baylor won the team title with a score of 831, which was 33-under par, while No. 8 Virginia placed second at 18-under par. No. 20 Georgia was third, Troy fourth and Alabama fifth.
"Unfortunately, we did not follow up a good tournament in San Diego with a good effort this week," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "There are some positives to take from the tournament with Marcus (Byrd) and Joey (Savoie) having solid tournaments and Ilari (Saulo) regaining some of his form from the fall. I look forward to getting back and preparing for our next tournament and seeing our response."
Sophomore Marcus Byrd led the Blue Raiders with three straight under par rounds of 70-71-70 for a 5-under par finish. Byrd tied for 10th overall to record his fourth career top 10 while leading the field with 40 pars.
Senior Joey Savoie shot a 1-under total of 215 to tie for 23rd. Savoie registered a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday and led the field in par 3 scoring at 3-under.
Freshman Ilari Saulo had a 218 total and tied for 34th. Saulo posted an even par 72 in the final round that included five birdies.
Freshman Chip Thomas finished 74th with a 230 total, while senior Drake Duncan came in 78th with a score of 234.
The Blue Raiders will be in action next at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville beginning March 31.
