Senior Class Award Information
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Senior center fielder Brad Jarreau has been selected as a Top 30 candidate in the nation for the Senior CLASS Award, announced Monday by Premier Sports Management.
Jarreau has exemplified what it means to be student-athlete on and off the field, earning candidacy for the prestigious award based on his hard work in the classroom, work in the community, his play on the field, and his character.
"Brad is what a student-athlete is all about," stated Head Coach Jim McGuire. "Not only is he a great player, but he is also a great student, person, and leader on and off the field. I am very proud that he is being recognized on the national level."
30 NCAA baseball student-athletes who excel both on and off the diamond were selected as candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate baseball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2017 College World Series in June.
Jarreau is the only candidate from Conference USA and the only one in the state of Tennessee to be considered for the award.
The senior has recently been back in the MT lineup, returning to action this past weekend after missing the previous 18 games due to undergoing hand surgery. The Joelton, Tenn., native is batting .381 so far this season.
