MT at Pacific and Cal Poly Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head coach Jimmy Borendame and Middle Tennessee men's tennis will face two more challenges when they hit the road for California to face Pacific Monday before a match against No. 39 Cal Poly on Wednesday.
Before their matchup against the Blue Raiders, Pacific will compete in the Pacific Mountain Invitational over the weekend. The Tigers' résumé includes wins over UC Davis, Hawai'i, Portland State and Nevada so far this season.
Senior Miguel Diaz shares the top two spots of the Pacific lineup with freshman Tadiwa Chinamo. Both are 6-3 in the dual match season, with Diaz winning three times at the No. 1 spot, followed by Chinamo with four wins on court two.
The Tigers' strong lineup carries into the third spot, where Akram El Sallely leads the team in singles win percentage with a record of 6-2. In doubles, Pacific holds a winning percentage of .476 and has tried 11 different doubles combinations this season.
Cal Poly enters play this weekend as the No. 39-ranked team in the country by the ITA. Through nine matches this season, they've tallied wins over Boise State, Pepperdine, New Mexico, Loyola Marymount and Pacific. Their four losses have all come against teams currently ranked 21st or better in the latest ITA poll.
Germantown, Tennessee, native Ben Donovan heads the Mustang lineup, as he is the No. 57 singles player according to the ITA. Donovan picked up an impressive win in three sets against No. 9 Michigan for the Mustangs' only point in the match. The senior pairs with Corey Pang at No. 1 doubles, where the duo holds a national ranking of No. 35.
