MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team heads back out on the road this weekend for a C-USA series with LA Tech. The three game contest begins Saturday, April 1 with a doubleheader at 2pm and concludes with a scheduled single game Sunday, April 2 at 1pm.
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series between the two sides, 5-3. MT and LA Tech have met for just one series since the Raiders entered Conference USA. That series took place in Murfreesboro in the 2014 season with the Lady Techsters taking two of the three games. Middle won the final game of the series by a score of 5-3. Austyn Whaley for MT and Pauline Tufi for LA Tech are the only two current players to have played in that 2014 matchup.
The Raiders enter the contest having fallen to UT-Martin, 5-3, yesterday. Following the loss, the Raiders have now been defeated in 10 of their last 11 and are now 10-18, 1-8 on the year.
Despite the loss to the Skyhawks, the Raiders had a strong showing with two double plays while Morgan Harris caught two UTM players stealing in the game. On offense, Keely McGee hit her third home run of the season, a rocket over the wall in right.
Along with McGee, Kristin Uselton has had a hot bat as of late, recording a hit in seven of the last eight games. She has also accounted for over a third of MT's RBI during that stretch with eight.
Precious Birdsong continues to lead the Raiders in batting average, with a .408, one of just seven C-USA players hitting above .400 on the year. She also has a team leading 14 stolen bases and .477 on base percentage.
In the circle, the Raider pitching squad has a team ERA of 2.53 led by Megan Chocallo's 1.46 in 33.2 innings of work. Cori Jennings leads the team in strikeouts with 60, wins with five and inning pitched with 94 to go with her 2.31 ERA.
LA Tech enters the weekend with a 21-12, 5-1 record. The Lady Techsters started conference play by taking two of three from Charlotte before sweeping Southern Miss. Most recently, LA Tech beat Stephen F. Austin, 8-0, in their midweek game on Tuesday.
Page Taria who has a .391 batting average on the season to go with five doubles, a triple and four home runs paces the Lady Techsters at the plate. She also leads the team in RBI with 29. Tufi leads the team in home runs with six, a number that places her in the top 10 in the conference. She is batting .300 on the season with 23 RBI.
Bailey Allen paces the Lady Techsters in the circle with 1.92 ERA in 47.1 innings. Preslee Gallaway has seen the most time in the circle with a 2.98 ERA in 89.1 innings of action. She also leads the staff in strikeouts with 76 and wins with nine.
The games will be streamed on C-USA TV and live stats will be available here.
