FRANKLIN, TN – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team opened play at the Mason Rudolph Championship and carded a 2-under par 282 to stand in a tie for fifth place. The 14-team event is being held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course (par 71, 7,100 yards).
No. 6 ranked Florida owns the overall lead at 8-under par, while host and No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt is second at 7-under par. Alabama is in third at 6-under par.
Senior Joey Savoie enjoyed a strong day that ended with an eagle on the 18th hole to give him a 68 and a tie for third overall. Savoie had four birdies and an eagle on the day, while shooting a 3-under par 33 on the back nine.
Freshman Ilari Saulo and junior Hoyeong Kim both registered even par rounds of 71. Saulo had a team-high six birdies, including four on the back nine, while Kim added five birdies including one on the final hole to put him at even par. Both are tied for 23rd in the field.
Sophomore Marcus Byrd shot a 1-over par 72 and is tied for 32nd. Byrd had three birdies on the day and was sitting at 3-under par through 14 holes.
Freshman Chip Thomas had a 2-over par 73 and is tied for 41st.
