Men’s Tennis hosts MT Shootout
Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After ending its 10-match road swing last weekend at the Conference USA Pod, Middle Tennessee men's tennis hosts its annual MT Shootout at the Adams Tennis Complex this weekend.
On Friday, the Blue Raiders will welcome No. 47-ranked South Alabama to Murfreesboro for a 2 p.m. match.
The Jaguars bring a 17-5 record to the MT Shootout, featuring triumphs over Auburn, Georgia State and Arizona, among others. Tuki Jacobs heads the Jaguars' lineup, posting an 8-2 mark at the top spot, while adding five wins on court two. Jacobs is joined at the top of the South Alabama lineup by Juan Cruz Soria, who's 6-1 at No. 1, along with nine victories at the No. 2 spot. Soria pairs with Loic Cloes at the No. 1 doubles spot for an 8-5 record on the season so far.
The Blue Raiders will turn their attention to Valpo on Saturday at 2 p.m., marking the first meeting between the two programs.
Valpo's only loss this season was a narrow, 4-3, defeat at Wisconsin on Jan. 28. Since then, the Crusaders have reeled on 15 consecutive wins to complete their 16-1 record at this point in the season. Wins over William & Mary, Western Michigan and Xavier highlight the tallies in the win column for the Crusaders, who are led by senior Jeffrey Schorsch. With a 13-0 mark at the top spot, Schorsch is tied for the team lead in dual match wins with Kyle Dunn, who holds down the No. 4 and 5 spots for Valpo.
MT's final match of the weekend will be against UAB, Sunday at 2 p.m.
Fellow conference member UAB is 9-6 entering MT Shootout play this weekend, including a 2-1 mark in conference action. C-USA wins for the Blazers came against UTSA and Southern Miss, while falling, 4-0, to Rice on March 10. UAB also boasts a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern on March 24 in Birmingham. Eric Komati holds down the top of the order for UAB, as he's posted a team-leading 8-5 mark at this point in the season while on a three-match win streak.
The international Blue Raider student-athletes will be honored at Friday's match, and there will be free pizza. On Saturday, free popcorn will be given to fans in attendance. MT's annual Compete with the Greeks match is slated for Sunday.
Live stats will be available for all three of MT's matches this weekend, and live updates will be posted on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis.
