Blue Raiders battle to earn win at (RV) Memphis 6-5

Clutch pitching was the key to the MT road win
The adversity started before the game ever did, when Head Coach Jim McGuire announced he would not be traveling due to an illness.
The news did not deter this group as they came out swinging, scoring in the first three innings of the game.
Riley Delgado got the game started on the right foot, slapping a leadoff single up the middle. Austin Dennis picked up where he left off Sunday, ripping an RBI-single past the pitcher to put the Blue Raiders up 1-0 in the first.
Tigers struck back in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single of their own to tie the game.
Delgado came through with another clutch hit, lifting an RBI-single to center field in the second, plus an error on the center fielder scored two runs making it 3-1 after the second frame.
Back-to-back walks started off the MT third inning. Drew Huff roped a two-run double to right center, scoring Dennis and Aaron Aucker putting the Blue Raiders up 5-1. Later in the inning, Huff scored from third after a Danny Denz balk.
The Blue Raiders were in control 6-1 after three innings.
The BlueRaider bullpen stepped up in a big way with Tanner McDivitt and Dennis coming in to pitch key innings.
McDivitt (1-0) picked up his first career win in the contest, throwing a solid three innings, allowing one run, two walks, while tying a career-high with three strikeouts in relief.
Dennis came in to pitch in the eighth to get the Blue Raiders out of a jam in a two-run game. The sophomore entered with runners on first and third, one out. After giving up a walk to the first batter he faced, the Rockledge, Fla., native struck out the next two batters to end the Memphis threat.
In the bottom of the ninth, Dennis returned to the mound. Memphis homered to make it 6-5 with one out. Again, Dennis responded by fanning the next two batters to end the game and pick up his first career save.
In his first career start, freshman Grant Williams threw a solid 4-1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, while striking out three.
Huff finished 2-of-4 with two RBI and a career-high two doubles in the game. Delgado went 2-of-5 with a run and RBI.
The Blue Raiders will be bac in action tomorrow for game two of the mid-week series. Game time set for 4 p.m.
