MT caps Joey Haines Invitational with seven wins

Egbeniyi sets meet record
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — With the Joey Haines Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri in the books, the Blue Raiders came away with seven wins to cap the weekend.
Abike Egbeniyi set the pace of the day by breaking a 16-year-old meet record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.66. Janet Amponsah also enjoyed a successful day in the 100-meter dash, clocking a mark of 11.50.
In the field, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad grabbed a first-place finish in the women's high jump, logging a leap of 5-04.25 (1.63m).
On the men's side, Tahir Walsh claimed gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.65, while Hillary Rono won the 800-meter run at 1:52.62.
Jacob Choge also continued his successful early start to the outdoor season with a win in the 1500-meter run with a 3:48.70 finish.
MT's 4x400-meter relay closed the day running away from the pack, as the quartet of Adeniji Adedamola, Trevon Sanders, Ifiok Umoh and Eliud Rutto finished the race with a time of 3:13.88.
In the field, Phillip Smith finished as the top collegian in the triple jump with a leap of 49-01.50 (14.97m).
Up next, Middle Tennessee will travel to Knoxville for the second time in three weeks for the Tennessee Relays, with action from Tom Black Track beginning Thursday.
