VOTE FOR THE BLUE ZOO
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A group of Middle Tennessee men's basketball greats are looking to take the floor this summer in The Basketball Tournament, an annual $2 million, 5-on-5 basketball tournament that is televised on the ESPN family of networks.
The Blue Zoo – MT's alumni team – will need help to enter the tournament as nine of the 16 teams in each region are selected based on a fan vote. Fans are encouraged to vote for their former stars at the link above and can even get in on the prize money should the Blue Zoo win the tournament.
The top 100 fans from the winning team will split 10 percent of the $2 million prize, with the top ranked fan from the winning team taking home $20,000.
"I'm excited that some of our great former players will be playing in TBT this summer with a purse of $2 million, but they really need all of our votes to help them out," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Kermit Davis said. "We need Blue Raider nation to step up and vote to get them into the tournament.
"This is a very talented group of guys and it will be a lot of fun for our fans to be able to watch this group play together on national television this summer."
The Blue Zoo is led by general manager and 2013 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Bruce Massey (2011-13) and is made up of a number of recent talents to come out of the Murphy Center. Also on the Blue Zoo roster are Perrin Buford (2014-16), Raymond Cintron (2011-13), 2012 Sun Belt Player of the Year LaRon Dendy (2011-12), Darnell Harris (2014-16), Jason Jones (2010-2013), 2014 Conference USA Player of the Year Shawn Jones (2010-14), Marcos Knight (2011-13) and James Washington (2009-11). Former Blue Raider Jimmy Oden (2010-12) will also help coach the Blue Zoo.
"We're very excited about the opportunity because it gives us a chance to play together one more time but also gives us a chance to represent Middle Tennessee and the Blue Zoo one more time," Massey said. "We greatly appreciate the support we have received so far and will continue to receive as we look to give our fans even more tournament basketball to watch this summer."
The tournament begins on July 8 with the south region teams playing in Charlotte, N.C.
