Kemp is the first Blue Raider to receive the award this season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Second baseman Ryan Kemp was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week announced this morning.
Kemp became the first Blue Raider honored with the award this season, hitting 10-of-15 last week to go along with two home runs, four doubles, seven runs scored, five RBI, four walks, 3-of-3 on stolen base attempts, and zero strikeouts.
Last Tuesday in MT's first win in Knoxville since 2013, the first-year Blue Raider came up in a big way with an RBI-double and key defensive plays throughout the game.
Kemp was dominant this past weekend against a tough Old Dominion squad, going 9-for-12 in the weekend series.
Don't let the 5'4" 160 lbs frame fool, the kid has power behind his bat, as he is currently second on the team in slugging percentage (.600), tied for second of the team with three home runs and eight doubles.
Kemp has been on fire at the plate, not only in this last week, but also in his last nine games. The JUCO transfer from Columbia State CC, is batting .500 over his last nine contests.
The Columbia, Tenn., native is tops on the team in multiple categories, despite only playing in 19 of the Blue Raiders 32 games due to hamstring issues. Since his return to the lineup, the MT offense has been more explosive than ever.
He and the Blue Raiders will look to continue their hot-hitting tonight at home against Belmont. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
