MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Graduate transfer Nick King has officially joined the Blue Raiders after signing his grant-in-aid on Wednesday morning, head coach Kermit Davis announced.
King will be eligible immediately after coming to Middle Tennessee from the Alabama Crimson Tide.
"We have recruited Nick out of high school and prior to his transfer to Alabama, so the third time is the charm for the Blue Raiders," Davis said. "He is a prototypical hybrid forward that we have had great success with at Middle Tennessee. He has tremendous character and excellent talent, and we feel he can come in and impact our program immediately."
"When Coach Davis contacted me it was just a perfect sign that this is a place I should be at," King said. "I'm thankful that he stuck with me throughout my career. Everything that this staff has done for me makes me trust them and feel like I'll be at home with this program."
The 6-foot-7, 228-pound guard/forward previously played two seasons with the Memphis Tigers, where he averaged 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore and 4.9 points and 3.3 boards per outing as a freshman.
King was a consensus Top 50 recruit in the nation out of high school by Scout (No. 28), ESPN (No. 37), and Rivals (No. 48). The East (Memphis) High School product finished his prep career with over 1,900 points and 1,000 rebounds before being named a Parade All-American and Tennessee's Class AAA Mr. Basketball in 2013.
King played in the first seven games for Alabama in 2016-17, earning two starts before being sidelined with a lung infection. He is expected to be fully healthy for the Blue Raiders for the 2017-18 season.
"Nick had a medical condition with his lung but has been fully cleared and is working out every single day," Davis said of King's health. "He is 100 percent and will be ready to go when we begin summer workouts on June 5th."
