Three school records fall at Mt. SAC Relays

MT adds pair of wins at APSU Invitational
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – School records continued to fall Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, as Agnes Abu, Kigen Chemadi and Geoffry Cheruiyot led the charge on day two of the meet.
Abu led a 2, 3 finish for the Blue Raiders in the women's 800-meter run. The senior clocked a time of 2:02.70 and shattered the previous school record of 2:04.97. Teammate Abike Egbeniyi took bronze and set a personal-best mark of 2:03.96.
Abu's and Egbeniyi's times currently Nos. 2 and 4 in the country, respectively.
On the men's side, Chemadi took gold in his section of the men's 5000-meter run and set a new school-best mark of 13:56.54. Chemadi eclipsed his personal-best mark by 1:18, and his efforts Friday currently rank him No. 11 in the NCAA in the event.
Cheruiyot broke his own school record in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, which he set last outdoor season. The junior's time of 8:48.73 is currently good for No. 11 in the country and gave him the win the second heat and eighth overall.
Hillary Rono set a new personal-best time in the 5000-meter run with a mark of 14:22.98, and nearly met his personal-best time with a 3:46.48 mark in the 1500-meter run. Sampson Laari also excelled with a time of 3:46.37 in his section of the men's 1500-meter run.
The Blue Raiders also enjoyed a successful first day at the APSU Invitational in Clarksville with a pair of first-place wins.
Elizabeth Dadzie took first in the javelin with a toss of 131-09, while Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad finished fourth. Dadzie also took second place in the women's triple jump with a leap of 39-08.75.
Phillip Smith was the lone male competitor for MT on Friday, but he excelled with a first-place victory in the triple jump with a mark of 49-07.75.
The Blue Raiders will cap the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday when Eliud Rutto and Sampson Laari compete in the men's 800-meter run at 4:55 p.m. Action from Clarksville will also conclude Saturday with the field events at 10 a.m. followed by track events at noon.
