FINAL RESULTS
RALEIGH, NC – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team shot a final round 290 on Saturday for an 860 total to finish seventh at the 2017 Wolfpack Spring Open. The event was held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course (par 71, 7,046 yards) in Raleigh and marked the end of the regular season for the Blue Raiders.
Host and 42nd ranked NC State easily won the tournament with a 31-under par total of 821, while No. 15 Clemson finished second at 18-under par. No. 19 Duke was third and South Florida was fourth.
"We had a solid round today but it wasn't enough to overcome the bad start we had on Friday," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "I think everyone is excited to get back home and have a great week of preparation for the Conference USA Championship and later the NCAA Regionals. I know the guys are anxious to get into the championship portion of the schedule."
Senior Joey Savoie shot a final round 72 for a 1-under par 212 total. Savoie, who had 14 total birdies for the tournament, tied for 16th to lead the Blue Raiders.
Junior Hoyeong Kim continued his consistent play and tied for 33rd with a 217 total. Kim had a team-best even par round of 71 on Saturday.
Freshman Ilari Saulo and sophomore Marcus Byrd both tied for 38th with 54-hole scores of 218. Saulo, who tied for second in the field in par 3 scoring at 4-under par, had a 73 in the final round while Byrd notched a 74. Byrd led the tournament with 43 pars.
Freshman Chip Thomas, who also shot a final round 74, tied for 53rd.
The Blue Raiders will now focus on the Conference USA Championships which will be played April 23-26 in Texarkana, AR. The event will be played at the Texarkana CC and will have three rounds of stroke play before ending with match play.
