Williams leads tournament in scoring
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider seniors JaCorey Williams and Reggie Upshaw have concluded their runs in the 2017 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament with impressive showings in front of representatives from each team in the NBA.
Williams, playing for Roger Brown's Restaurant, led all scorers in the tournament with 20.3 points per game on 54 percent shooting while adding 7.0 rebounds per game. He converted 27 field goals during the three-game event, another tournament high, on his way to All-Tournament Team honors.
He also totaled five steals, three blocks and three assists across the three games as his squad made a run to Saturday night's championship game in which he logged 25 points and eight rebounds.
Upshaw, a member of Portsmouth Sports Club, ranked third in scoring on his team at 14.3 points per game and was seventh in the tournament in rebounding with 8.3 boards per outing.
The Chattanooga native had five assists to just two turnovers over three games to boast a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Williams' Roger Brown's Restaurant squad went 2-1 in the tournament with its only loss coming in the championship game while Upshaw's Portsmouth Sports Club squad went 1-2.
