This is Dennis' First Honor from the Conference this season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore slugger Austin Dennis was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week announced by the conference office Monday morning.
This is Dennis' first C-USA Hitter of the Week honor and the first Blue Raider to win the award this season.
Dennis is coming off a stellar week at the plate, hitting .500 (8-of-13 in the weekend sweep) with two home runs, eight runs scored, and eight RBI in four games. The utility man also boasted a .833 slugging percentage (1.077 over the weekend) over the course of MT's 4-0 stretch last week.
The Rockledge, Fla., native currently ranks T-4th in C-USA with 34 RBI. He has already surpassed his 2016 total of 27 RBI.
Dennis had a career game Saturday, collecting his first career multi-homer game, ripping a solo shot to go along with his first career outside-the-park grand slam, while tying his career-high with five RBI in the Blue Raiders dominant 18-3 run-rule win over UAB.
Dennis has been instrumental to MT's recent success, doing it all, making plays in the outfield, having solid appearances on the mound, and becoming red-hot at the plate.
"He's been big for us all season," said Head Coach Jim McGuire. "We've asked a lot from him this year, on the mound and at the plate, and he's produced for us in all aspects of the game. I'm proud that he's being recognized by the conference, very well deserved."
Dennis and the Blue Raiders look to continue their winning ways, against nationally-ranked Vanderbilt Tuesday night at Reese Smith Jr. Field. First pitch set for 6 p.m.
