Dadzie, Choge grab wins on day two

EL PASO, Texas – After a successful start to the 2017 Conference USA Championships, Elizabeth Dadzie and Jacob Choge continued the impressive effort with first-place finishes Friday.
Dadzie placed in the top three in the final trio of heptathlon events to tally 5,832 points. The senior's mark shattered her own school record of 5,599 set last season and surpassed a C-USA Championship record that was held since 2013.
Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad also excelled on day two in the heptathlon. Beginning the day in ninth, the junior surged to a fifth-place finish and registered a personal-best 5,033 total points to cap the combined events.
The duo picked up 14 team points for the Blue Raiders.
On the track, MT's Julia Jelagat added a pair of points to the team total with a seventh-place finish in the 10000-meter run to set the team's 16-point effort Friday.
Jacob Choge recorded a win in the men's first event of the weekend, as the freshman took first in the 10000-meter run with a time of 30:06.76. Amos Cheruiyot took fourth place in the same event with a time of 31:20.37 to increase the men's total point score to 15 points and a third-place standing.
Saturday marks the first full day of field events beginning at 1 p.m. Preliminary rounds of the running events will start at 5 p.m., with the 3000-meter Steeplechase finals capping the day at 9 p.m.
