Records fall as Blue Raiders set for C-USA finals

MT's women surge to first after third day
EL PASO, Texas – Janet Amponsah broke a pair of school records as Middle Tennessee qualified for 20 spots in the final day of the 2017 C-USA Championships.
Amponsah clocked a 11.32 in the 100-meter dash and a 23.09 in the 200-meter dash to take first in the preliminary rounds and set new school marks.
Abike Egbeniyi and Agnes Abu each secured spots in a pair of events for Sunday's final round. Egbeniyi established a new personal-best time in the 400-meter dash and took second in the 800-meter run. Agnes Abu finish fourth in the 800-meter run and third in the 1500-meter run to qualify for the final round.
Loveth Odia will join Egbeniyi in the 400-meter dash, while Elizabeth Dadzie qualified for the 100-meter hurdles.
Rachel Kigen, Sharon Kibiwott and Rhema Cheruiyot earned a total of 15 points for the Blue Raiders in the 3000-meter Steeplechase to help the women's squad climb into first place to cap the third day.
Four new personal-best marks were set on the men's side, with Tahir Walsh leading the way.
Walsh set two new personal records as the senior clocked a 10.31 in the 100-meter dash and a 21.14 in the 200-meter dash to earn a trip to Sunday's finals.
Adeniji Adedamola moved on to the final round in the 400-meter dash, and the trio of Eliud Rutto, Sampson Laari and Kigen Chemadi secured spots in the 800-meter finals.
Six Blue Raiders earned a shot at gold in the 1500-meter run with Jacob Choge, Chemadi, Hillary Rono, Rutto, Geoffry Cheruiyot and Laari set to compete in Sunday's final.
Geoffry Cheruiyot closed the day by taking first in the 3000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 8:58.56. MT's men's team stands in fourth place heading into the final day.
