MT left 15 runners on base
HOUSTON, Texas – The Blue Raiders could not generate any offense, falling 4-0 at Rice Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Blue Raiders (22-29, 8-19) left 15 runners on base, while the Owls (24-28, 14-13) left eight.
"Our pitching was a lot better this weekend," said Head Coach Jim McGuire. "But we just could not get a timely hit today."
The Owls jumped out early, plating four runs in the first three innings of play. That was all of the scoring in the contest.
MT had multiple innings with bases loaded and could not come up with a timely hit to drive anyone home.
The Blue Raiders made things interesting in the end, with the bases loaded and one out, but again did not drive anyone home.
Jake Wyrick (3-2) was tabbed with the loss after only going three innings.
Redshirt freshman reliever, Devin Conn had a solid outing with three scoreless innings of work, while tying a career high with seven strikeouts.
Rice starter Willy Amador (3-4) earned the win throwing 5-2/3 scoreless innings.
Drew Huff finished 2-of-3 in the game, while Ryan Kemp went 2-of-4.
MT is mathematically eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament.
The Blue Raiders are back in action Tuesday to take on No. 25 Vanderbilt in Nashville.
