Birdsong Named to NFCA All-Region First Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following her record setting season, Precious Birdsong added another accolade to her Middle Tennessee softball resume. Birdsong was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region First Team on Tuesday. This is the first All-Region honor for MT since moving to the Mideast region and the first time to earn an award since 2004.

This season, Birdsong became the MT single season record holder in batting average (.443), ranking third in C-USA and 13^th in the nation. She was named to the Conference USA First Team last week. The junior was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational in February.

Birdsong also set career marks by becoming the MT career triples leader (10) and stolen bases leader (101). Additionally, the outfielder added her name several other MT single season records including becoming third in singles (57) and second in on-base percentage (.494).

Birdsong was one of the best in the conference, ranking fifth in C-USA in on-base percentage (.494), seventh in hits (62) and sixth in stolen bases (23). She was also one of just nine players in C-USA with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

"Precious is extremely deserving of this honor," said Head Coach Jeff Breeden. "She is a great teammate and exemplifies what it takes to be a great student athlete. Precious is the face of our program at this time and I'm very happy for her to receive this honor! She is a great player, student, and most importantly a great person. Precious is a winner!"
